Geekerella by Ashley Poston | Book Review
10.27.2017
BLURB: Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise (Goodreads).
Never give up on your dreams, and never let anyone tell you that what you love is inconsequential or useless or a waste of time. Because if you love it? If that OTP or children's card game or abridged series or YA book or animated series makes you happy? That is never a waste of time. Because in the end we're all just a bunch of weirdos standing in front of other weirdos, asking for their username.

⭐⭐⭐⭐
I thought I was going to hate this book. That was one thing I was sure of when I started reading this. A story about a girl meeting a famous, handsome boy which then lead to a cliche love story isn't my kind of thing. I hate the drama, the gossips and all the things that are related to the fame world. But this book is an exception. Probably my hatred towards that kind of story was because the first book I DNF-ed throughout the history of my readership was exactly like that. But it's so much more than just romance.
Chad Michael Murray, everyone. |
I’m the lost princess. I’m the villain of my story, and the hero. Part of my mom and part of my dad. I am a fact of the universe. The Possible and the Impossible. I am not no one.
The whole fandom aspect won't work without the characters; Elle and Darien. I love watching the budding romance between them. It did felt too fast because come on, you met through text messages and you didn't feel scared at all? Nonetheless, their romance was so cute and fluffy and is everything I need after days of studying. The build-up towards them finally meeting was so fun to read, it was addictive exactly because I couldn't be patient about them finally meeting. And when they did, it felt so satisfying. Those two dorks deserve each other. A fluffy romance that highlights the world of fandom? This book deserves an A.
Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.
If you are a fangirl/fanboy, a geek, a nerd, loves retellings, cute fluffy romance between two dorks and the joy of being in a fandom, you will absolutely love this book.
